Aberdeenshire is full of amazing cafes, and if you have a furry friend it is even better when they are dog friendly! We love treating ourself to some coffee and cakes after walking. Not only are you supporting local hospitality businesses, but you are also getting some delicious food! Win-win.
Here are some of the dog friendly cafes we love in Aberdeenshire! Let us know of any we missed in the comments
1. The Old Post Office Tearoom, Chapel of Gairoch
If you love quirky cafes with character, then you need to check out the old post office tearoom! They allow well behaved dogs, and there is an outdoor seating area as well. This is very close to Bennachie, so is great if you fancy a post-hike coffee.
2. Treehouse Cafe, Midmar
Midmar is literally in the middle of nowhere. But the Treehouse cafe makes it a valuable and worthwhile trip out to this part of Aberdeenshire! They absolutely love dogs in this cafe.
If you are looking for a pre or post-coffee walk near the Treehouse Cafe, Hill of Fare is close by has a couple of super trails! They’re very ideal paths for taking dogs on.
3. Barra Berries, Oldmeldrum
The opening of Barra Berries Coffee Shop was a total game changer to the Oldmeldrum area! They are still thriving, and it is easy to see why! We love coming here with the dogs after walking up Barra Hill. Not only do they do some of the best food, they also serve up ice cream made from their own berries.
4. Spider on a Bicycle, Aboyne
If you want a quirky atmosphere, tasty food and proper coffee, take a trip to Spider on a Bicycle! This Aboyne based coffee shop welcomes well behaved dogs and their staff are very friendly.
If you are looking for a walk to combine with this coffee shop visit, we recommend Dess Waterfall which is around 7km, or Cambus O'May Forest which is 5km.
5. Dog Lab, Ellon
The Dog Lab in Ellon is a relatively new dog friendly cafe in Aberdeenshire. While the food and coffee isn’t my favourite in the world, it is a very easy cafe to visit with dogs. There is also nice seating outside by the River Ythan which is pretty, and makes it ideal for visiting after a good dog walk there!
6. Bridge House Cafe, Ballater
Ballater is a gorgeous Aberdeenshire town and has a number of fantastic cafes and restaurants. Bridge House Cafe is very dog friendly, even serving up pancakes and pick-n-mixes for your pups! The staff are very friendly and your dogs will probably steal their attention.
Bridge House Cafe is ideal for visiting before or after the Balmoral Cairns Walk, although there are plenty of walks in this part of Deeside!
7. Trellis, Newburgh
Okay, if you’ve not been to Trellis in Newburgh yet, you are missing out… big time!! How do we even start to explain the food and cakes from the former Mrs. Melt?
Melt used to be a brilliant cafe in Aberdeen serving dripping cheese toasties and fantastically delicious cakes! Sadly, they closed over the last couple of years. But Aberdeen’s loss was Newburgh’s gain. “Mrs. Melt” set up Trellis and their food is brilliant (hugeee portions)! And even better for dog owners, they allow pups into the cafe.
8. The Dreamy Goat, Inverurie
On the hunt for veggie or vegan food in Aberdeenshire? The Dreamy Goat cafe specialises in vegetarian and plant-based food. Although we are not vegetarians ourselves, I really enjoyed the meal! Their coffee is also high quality and very good. Although the space is quite small in this cafe, they are dog friendly! We definitely recommend you visit them.
9. Cafe Nineteen, Peterhead
Cafe Nineteen is a dog friendly cafe near Peterhead. It is located on Longside Road beside Berryhill Driving Range. This cafe had a great selection of breakfast and lunches, cakes and coffees at reasonable prices. Nothing fancy or speciality, but good food (ie. toasties, soup etc) in a convenient location!
